Predator Motorcycle Helmet Buyer’s Guide: DOT & ECE Certified Predator Helmets With Dreads, Laser Options and Custom Colors

How our Predator motorcycle helmet is built on a DOT & ECE certified helmet, plus colors, dreads, laser options, sizes S to XXL, visors, prices and shipping.

A Predator motorcycle helmet is the fastest way to stop being one more rider in a black lid. Ours is built around a certified DOT & ECE open-face helmet, with a molded, hand-painted fiberglass Predator shell over it, and it comes in grey, red, or red with red dreads. This guide covers how the helmet is built, which colors and editions you can choose, how dreads, laser elements and visors work, how to pick a size, what it costs and why, and how shipping and care work. By the end you should know exactly which Predator helmet fits you and your bike.

What Is a Predator Motorcycle Helmet?

A Predator motorcycle helmet is a riding helmet styled after the hunter from the Predator films: the sculpted brow, the mandibles around the mouth and the long dreads at the back of the head. It looks like a creature mask, and it rides like a helmet.

That last part is where most Predator helmets for sale split into two groups:

  • Display and cosplay pieces. They look the part on a shelf or at a convention, but they are not built around a certified riding helmet.
  • Riding helmets with a Predator design. The look sits on top of a real, certified helmet that does the protective work.

Ghostbiker helmets belong to the second group, and it is the most important thing to check before you buy any Predator helmet for motorcycle use.

Ride anywhere. Built on a DOT & ECE certified helmet, so you can ride with confidence in the USA, Europe and beyond.

Riders choose a Predator helmet for the same reason they choose a loud paint job or a custom exhaust. It is a statement. It turns heads at a gas station, gets photographed at bike nights and makes the bike and rider read as one. It works on cruisers and custom builds, on sport bikes with a bold color match, and for fans of the films who want something they can actually ride in.

How Our Predator Helmet Is Built

Every Ghostbiker Predator helmet has two layers with two different jobs.

1. The certified helmet inside. At the core is a certified DOT & ECE open-face helmet. That base helmet is the protective part: the shell, the impact-absorbing liner, the comfort padding and the retention strap that keeps it on your head. We do not modify how it protects you.

2. The Predator shell outside. Around that base sits the Predator design itself. It is cast in molds from fiberglass, then shaped, finished and painted by hand in our workshop. The fiberglass makes it rigid and durable, so it holds its detail for years of riding and handling. It is a decorative layer. It gives the helmet its face, its texture and its character, while the certified helmet inside protects your head.

Real protection inside. The outer shell is a hand-painted fiberglass design, and the certified helmet inside protects your head.

Because every shell is painted by hand, one at a time, the placement of shades and small details varies slightly from helmet to helmet. No two are exactly alike. That is not a defect. It is the reason a handmade helmet looks alive in daylight in a way a printed or mass-molded one does not.

We are a family-owned company and have been building custom motorcycle helmets since 2009. Each helmet is made, hand-painted and shipped in the USA.

Predator Helmet Colors and Editions

The current Predator motorcycle helmet comes in three ready-to-ship versions:

  • Grey full. The classic look: weathered grey skin tones, dark detailing and standard dreads. Quiet from a distance, unmistakable up close. It suits black, grey and matte bikes.
  • Red with standard dreads. A deep red finish that reads as aggressive and fast. A strong match for red sport bikes and custom cruisers.
  • Red with red dreads, the Predator mask version. The full red treatment, dreads included. This is the most dramatic of the three and the one people notice first.

Beyond those, a custom paint job can take your Predator in almost any direction. A few examples of what we can paint for you:

  • Green and black, for example to match a green sport bike
  • Blue, yellow, violet, pink, orange, or black and red
  • A metallic look such as gold, bronze or chrome
  • A skull theme with an exposed-bone look
  • A battle-worn finish with painted scars and damage
  • Matte white or matte black, with a laser element if you want one

If you want the helmet to match your bike exactly, bring us the color. A matched Predator helmet next to the bike it was painted for is a different level of custom. Custom colors, extra painted elements and full airbrush artwork are quoted individually, depending on how complex the design is. You can start that conversation on our Custom Orders page.

Dreads and Laser Options

Dreads. The dreads are a big part of the Predator silhouette, and they move with you on the road. On the current model you choose between standard dreads and red dreads. Red dreads are what turn the red helmet into the full Predator mask version. If you have a different dread color in mind, it can be part of a custom order.

Laser elements. The three-dot targeting laser is one of the most recognizable details from the films, and it is a frequent request for a Predator helmet with lights. We have built laser elements into Predator masks in past editions. This is a custom feature, so it is quoted per order through Custom Orders rather than offered as a standard option on the product page.

Treat the laser as a show feature for bike nights, events and photos. Keep it switched off while you ride, and never point it at people, drivers or animals.

Sizing and Fit

A Predator helmet is a larger, more sculpted helmet than a plain open-face lid, so getting the size right matters more for comfort, not less.

How to measure your head:

  1. Take a soft tape measure.
  2. Wrap it around the widest part of your head, about 2 cm (1 in) above your eyebrows and ears.
  3. Note the measurement in centimeters and compare it with the chart.
SizeHead circumference
S56 cm
M57–58 cm
L59–60 cm
XL61 cm
XXL62 cm

If you fall between two sizes, contact us before ordering and we will help you choose. A good fit feels snug all around, with even pressure and no hot spots, and the helmet should not rotate when you turn your head. Larger riders looking for an XXL Predator motorcycle helmet are covered by the same model and the same finishes as every other size.

Because of the sculpted shell and the dreads, a Predator helmet weighs more than a plain open-face helmet. The right size keeps that weight balanced and comfortable on longer rides.

Visors: Clear, Tinted and Mirrored

Every Predator helmet ships with a clear visor included. On the product page you can upgrade to:

  • Tinted visor (+$50). Cuts glare on bright days and adds to the darker, more menacing look.
  • Mirrored visor (+$100). The most striking option. It hides your eyes completely and gives the face a finished, cinematic feel.

Many riders keep a clear visor for evening and night riding and a tinted or mirrored one for daytime. Spare and replacement visors are available separately as a helmet visor, so you can switch between them without buying a second helmet. If you are unsure which visor fits, ask before ordering.

Predator Helmet Price: Why Around $700

The Predator motorcycle helmet is priced from $720 to $740, depending on the version:

  • Grey full with standard dreads: $720
  • Red with standard dreads: $730
  • Red with red dreads (Predator mask): $740

The price reflects how each helmet is made:

  • The base is a certified DOT & ECE helmet. You are paying for a real riding helmet inside, not a mask with a strap.
  • The shell is handmade. Each Predator shell is cast in fiberglass, finished and painted by hand. That is skilled manual work on every single helmet, not a production line.
  • Every helmet is one of a kind. Hand painting means your helmet is not identical to anyone else’s.
  • It is made in the USA. Each helmet is made, painted and shipped from our workshop in Moss Point, Mississippi.
  • The options are real options. Size, dread color and visor are chosen per helmet, and custom paint is available when you want more.

Worldwide, no worries. Thousands of Ghost Biker helmets ride on roads around the world, and each one has a certified DOT & ECE helmet inside.

With 2,000+ helmets made for riders worldwide, the Predator is the model we know best. For a statement helmet you will wear for years, around $700 buys a piece that is built to be ridden and made to be noticed.

Care. A hand-painted helmet lasts for years with simple care:

  • Clean the painted surface with a soft microfiber cloth and mild soapy water.
  • Avoid solvents, abrasive cleaners and polishing compounds. They can dull or damage the paint.
  • Clean the visor with water and a soft cloth, and avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Store the helmet in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight.
  • Hang it rather than resting it on the dreads, for example on a skull helmet wall mount.
  • Replace any helmet that has taken a serious impact, even if the damage is not visible.
